Ce périodique a débuté en avril 1985 sous le titre Enquête. Cahiers du Cercom (direction Jean-Claude Passeron) : huit numéros ont ainsi été publiés, jusqu’en septembre 1993, par le Centre d’enquêtes et de recherches sur la culture, la communication, les modes de vie et la socialisation (CERCOM).
De 1995 à 1999, sept numéros ont été publiés, sous le titre Enquête. Anthropologie, Histoire, Sociologie, par les Éditions Parenthèses, à Marseille. e-ISSN 1953-809X
